Overview

One&Only Royal Mirage is one of Dubai's original beach resorts, built long before the Marina skyline existed, and it still feels like it. Spread across 65 acres, it's split into Arabian Court (family-friendly) and The Residence (adults-only); The Palace wing is currently closed while it's refreshed. It suits couples and families who want quiet over spectacle.

The beach is real sand, a genuine kilometre of it, backed by palm gardens rather than sunbeds stacked three deep. Arabian Court has a proper kids' club for ages four and up, family pools and interconnecting rooms, while The Residence next door is calmer, adults-only, with its own pool and library lounge. Service is old-school attentive rather than Instagram-flashy; evenings are low-key, not clubby.

Book The Residence if you want a childfree weekend, Arabian Court if you're bringing the kids — but check current availability given The Palace's closure, as it reduces the room stock and some legacy restaurants. There's no waterpark on site, just a shuttle to Aquaventure, so families chasing slides all day may prefer elsewhere. Summer is quiet and hot; winter weekends book up fast with residents.

Eating and drinking

  • Trèsind — Modern Indian fine dining with bold, expressive plating in a resort known for Michelin recognition. It's a dressed-up dinner rather than a casual family meal, best suited to couples or a grown-up night while the kids are at the club.
  • Eauzone — Pan-Asian food served over water, palm trees on one side, pool and sea views on the other. Relaxed by day, more atmospheric after dark. Works for a family lunch as easily as a couple's dinner.
  • The Rotisserie — The resort's all-day dining restaurant, built around a show kitchen with copper chimneys and cast-iron ovens, serving Middle Eastern and European buffet and à la carte food. Large family tables and a garden terrace make it the easiest option with children.
  • Tagine — An intimate, low-lit Moroccan restaurant with tagines, couscous and sharing platters, entered through carved wooden doors. Dinner only, and more suited to a couple's night out than a meal with young children.
  • Beach Bar & Grill — A feet-in-the-sand, smart-casual restaurant on the beach club side of the resort with South American-leaning grill food, good for a long lazy lunch. Works well for families by day, livelier for couples at sunset.
  • The Samovar Lounge — A garden and sea-view spot for afternoon tea and light dining. It's the easy, unhurried option for a mid-afternoon stop between the beach and the pool, and it suits all ages.
  • The Jetty Lounge — A beachfront bar built for sunset, with cabanas on the sand, fire pits and cocktails. Adults will get the most from it in the evening; by day it's a pleasant enough beach stop for the whole family.

Getting there

It's a straightforward drive from anywhere in Dubai, roughly 30 minutes from Downtown and barely 10 minutes from Dubai Marina and JBR, with valet parking on arrival. Dubai International Airport is around a 30 to 35 minute drive. Given the traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road at weekend check-in time, a private transfer is worth arranging rather than a taxi queue.
