Overview

Jumeirah Al Naseem is the newest of the four hotels inside the Madinat Jumeirah estate, having opened in 2016, and it trades the tent-and-wind-tower look of its sister properties for a lighter, more contemporary beach-club feel. It suits families and couples who want proper resort space without an over-styled Arabian theme.

On the ground it's a genuine beach resort: real sand, several pools including one for adults only, and a turtle rehabilitation lagoon the children will want to visit more than once. Rooms are large by Dubai standards and service is calm rather than fussy. Wild Wadi is a short walk away with entry included, and an abra ride gets you round to the souk or the neighbouring hotels' restaurants for the evening.

Aim for the cooler months if you want to actually use the beach and pools; in summer most of the day shifts indoors or into the water, which is worth weighing against the cost. It's not a budget stay, and rooms on the garden side lose the sea view that makes the extra spend worthwhile, so it's worth asking for a gulf-facing room at booking.

Eating and drinking

  • Rockfish — Mediterranean seafood restaurant on the beach with a terrace looking out at Burj Al Arab. Better suited to a proper sit-down dinner than a quick bite; go early evening if bringing children.
  • The Palmery — All-day international restaurant and the hotel's main breakfast venue, with open terraces and garden views. Relaxed enough for children and the easiest choice for a family dinner.
  • Summersalt Beach Club — Beach club serving Latin-inspired food by day, with its own stretch of pool and sand attached. Popular with families during the day, though some areas favour suite guests.
  • Kayto — Rooftop restaurant serving Japanese-Peruvian food with views over Burj Al Arab, known for its Saturday brunch. More sophisticated than child-focused, better for a date night or a grown-up dinner.
  • Al Mandhar Lounge — Lobby lounge for afternoon tea and light bites through the day, with a Burj Al Arab backdrop. An easy stop for pastries or a quiet coffee, and works fine with children in tow.
  • Sugarmash — Polynesian-themed pool bar by the adults-only pool, serving rum-based cocktails and light food. Effectively adults only given its location, good for a lazy afternoon without the children.
  • Kalsa Pool Bar — Family pool bar serving Mediterranean-leaning light meals, flatbreads and pizzas through the day. The easy lunch spot between swims and one of the more relaxed venues for children.
  • Blind Tiger — Speakeasy-style cocktail bar tucked into the Turtle Lagoon, with tapas-style bites and a live DJ in the evenings. An adults' spot for pre- or post-dinner drinks, not really for children.

Getting there

It's roughly a 20-25 minute drive from Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina with clear roads, and about 20 minutes from Dubai International Airport. Self-parking and valet are both available on site. Most Dubai residents drive themselves for a weekend stay; a transfer is only worth arranging if you're coming straight off a flight with heavy luggage.
