Burj Al Arab Jumeirah

Overview
The Burj Al Arab is the sail-shaped landmark on its own island off Umm Suqeim, an all-suite hotel with 202 duplex suites and a butler for every guest. It suits residents marking something specific — a proposal, a fortieth, a fifteenth anniversary — rather than a casual weekend away.
Every suite is two levels with floor-to-ceiling windows over the Gulf, and check-in happens in your own suite rather than a lobby. There's a private beach, several pools including an adults-only saltwater infinity pool on the terrace, Talise Spa over two floors, and free access to Wild Wadi Waterpark next door, which keeps children entertained without the parents having to leave the island.
This is not a hotel to book on a whim or for value — there's no getting round the scale of it, and the interiors are deliberately maximalist, so it won't suit anyone wanting understated. Summer heat pushes most of the action indoors or into the pools; winter and spring make the terrace and beach genuinely usable all day. Book restaurants ahead, since access to the island itself generally requires a room or dining reservation.

Eating and drinking
- Al Muntaha — The hotel's signature fine-dining restaurant on the 27th floor, with floor-to-ceiling windows over the coast and a menu overseen by a chef trained under Alain Ducasse. Dinner only, and a proper occasion table rather than a place for young children.
- Al Mahara — The aquarium restaurant, built around a floor-to-ceiling tank at its centre, serving French and Italian seafood-led cuisine. Striking enough that older children who like the spectacle will enjoy it, though the pace and pricing suit an adult dinner best.
- Al Iwan — Traditional Arabic dining in an opulent atrium setting, with a buffet that includes a seafood bar and live cooking stations. Family-friendly in format and one of the easier venues here to bring children to for lunch or dinner.
- Sahn Eddar — The lobby lounge in the hotel's vast atrium, known for its afternoon tea with a tea sommelier on hand. A relaxed, all-day option for coffee, cake or tea rather than a formal dinner, and comfortable with children in tow.
- Skyview Bar — Perched 200 metres up on the 27th floor, this is a cocktail and afternoon tea spot with sweeping views over Dubai's skyline and coastline. Evening service leans adult, though afternoon tea here works for families.
- Gilt — A contemporary cocktail bar with small plates and a lively atmosphere, smoke-free and built for an evening out rather than a family meal. Best suited to couples or groups on a night away from the children.
- Les Desserts — A dedicated pastry venue for coffee and sweets, recently recognised for its pastry programme. An easy stop with children for a treat rather than a full meal, and a nice way to break up a day on the island.
- Sal Beach Club — The outdoor terrace area with a large infinity pool, cabanas and Mediterranean-leaning food and drink by the water. This is where a lot of the daytime happens for suite guests, and works well for families through the day and couples in the evening.
Getting there
It's roughly 20 to 25 minutes from Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina depending on traffic, and about an hour and a half from Abu Dhabi. Dubai International Airport is the nearest, around 25 minutes away, and the hotel has its own private road and valet arrival — a chauffeured transfer or one of the hotel's own cars is worth arranging given the arrival experience is part of the point.
