Ajman Hotel by Blazon Hotels

Overview

This is the old Kempinski on Ajman Corniche, opened in the late 1990s and now run under the Blazon Hotels name, with a website that has recently begun showing Dusit branding too. It suits families and couples who want a proper stretch of private beach and mature gardens rather than a shiny new tower.

The draw is the 400-metre private beach, said to be the largest in Ajman, backed by palm gardens and an outdoor pool with its own kids' pool alongside. There is a supervised kids' club for four to 14 year olds, watersports on the sand, a spa and gym, and a genuinely unhurried, low-key pace to the place.

Worth knowing before you book: the property is going through a rebrand, so double-check with the specialist team which name and dining line-up is current on your travel dates. It is an older-style resort rather than a flashy new build, which is exactly its appeal for repeat guests, but do not expect the polish of Dubai's newest beach hotels.

Eating and drinking

  • Bukhara — An Indian restaurant built around an open kitchen and clay tandoor, known for its kebabs, dal and freshly baked naan. Earthy, spice-forward and a proper sit-down dinner rather than a quick buffet stop; works fine with older children.
  • Rosmarino Ristorante & Pizzeria — The hotel's Italian restaurant, with handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and fresh seafood done simply and well. An open kitchen and relaxed atmosphere make it an easy, unfussy choice for a family dinner or a casual lunch.
  • ZanziBar — Right on the sand, this is the spot for a sundowner or a seafood grill while the sun goes down over the Gulf. Casual, beachfront and a natural stop after a day on the loungers rather than a formal dinner venue.
  • Café Naseem — The all-day dining restaurant, covering breakfast, lunch and dinner with a broader, more relaxed menu and themed evenings. This is where most guests will end up eating with children, given the flexibility of the format.

Getting there

It is roughly a 40 to 50 minute drive from Dubai up the E11 or Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and the property sits around 25km from Dubai International Airport, so a transfer or self-drive both work fine. There is parking on site, and Sharjah International Airport is the closer option if flying in rather than driving from Dubai.
